Amavatari Rasa is used in the treatment of diseases which are of Vata origin. Amavatari Ras helps decrease pain, swelling and stiffness in joints. It reduces the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Rheumatoid Arthritis is known as Amavata in Ayurveda. This disease directly affects the quality of life of the affected person. The word Amavata is made up of a combination of two words, Ama and Vata. Ama is the undigested food produced in the body due to Mandagni (sluggish digestive fire). When all metabolic fires (Agni) become sluggish, Ama is produced. It is heavy (guru), unctuous (Snigdha), immobile (Sthira), bulky (Sthula), and slimy (Pichhila).

Ama is toxic and with the help of Vata it circulates in the whole body and is located in the Sandhis (joints), causing pain, stiffness and swelling over the joints. In Amavata, Agni (metabolic fire) plays an important role.
